The frozen road movie of the Carnival saga
Hoping that the community will find the courage
To challenge the cancellation and the interdictions
Carnival is older than BLM but stems from similar events
Race riots following the murder of Kelso Cochrane by racists in 1959
Claudia Jones Cumberbatch organised the first Carnival to defuse tensions
It was held indoors at the St Pancras Town Hall in 1959
First outdoors Carnival was held in 1966 without official permission
This led to confrontations with the police and riots until it was allowed in 1987
Nothing comes without a battle
Identity is about culture and history
Giving up would mean that BLM is just a fad…
